An effect is a catch-all term for "something that does something". There are various types of effects which should essentially be treated as "tags" attached to effects. The effect types are not governed by additional rules in-and-of themselves except that there are many aspects of the game which interact with certain effect types. However some types of effects, such as transformation effects or resistance effects, typically share common keywords or other rules text.
