If a creature hears a sound that is roughly as loud as a person talking within 20 feet then they know the location that sound originates from to within an area of 5 feet. If they are within 40 feet then they know the general direction, but not precisely where the sound is from. A sound as quiet as a whisper has these ranges at 5 feet and 10 feet. If it is as loud as a yell then the ranges are 50 feet and 100 feet. Most loud effects are at least as loud as a yell. The GM may decide that these distance are different based on circumstance or if a creature uses Perceive.
