If you make a check with inferiority then you do so with an additional -1 penalty. This is referred to as being a inferior. If a check would have inferiority from multiple sources, then it still only gains the -1 penalty once. However, inferior stacks with other penalties and bonuses, such as those granted by proficiency or fluency.
