Looks: These creatures take the look of the animals they inhabit. Most often, they have been seen as walruses, polar bears, or rocs. But, they could be any animal. Parts of ayla beasts appear black and rotten. Their eyes often appear hollow and oozing. They are hulking mutants of what they were but are often two to five sizes larger.
Ayla creatures are thought to be infected by some ancient Dagdeoth magic adrift in the high mountains of Northern Teriock. They maintain all abilities of the animal they inhabit.
Abilities:
On hit: Target is infected with a disease that takes 10 minutes to manifest. During this time, the disease can be removed with Cure Illness and a DC 15 herbalist check. Afterwards, it can only be removed with effects akin to Exorcism. Once the disease is manifested, the target's spirit must follow directions you provide to it. You do not need to share any language with the target or their spirit. This is more akin to a "hive mind", where they implicitly understand you needs and directives.
Attribute improvement: This ability sets your SNK score to a minimum of -2.
You count as being undead for the purposes of abilities, damage, and other effects. You also gain Ethereal Senses, Healing Sensitivity, Magical Durability, Mana Drain Touch, Undead Mind, and Undying Durability.
As you attack, choose either arm or leg. The damage gets dealt accordingly.
On critical hit: The target takes 2 hack damage on either arms or legs, depending on what you chose. On hit: The target takes 1 hack damage on either an arm or leg, depending on what you chose.
Attribute improvement: This ability sets your INT score to a minimum of 3.
On hit: At the start of the target's next turn, they are reanimated as a zombie. It is not under your command, but is hostile to everyone but you. The zombie keeps the SIZE it had before, but loses all other traits and abilities. If the target was already some kind of zombie, then it is reanimated as that type. Heightened: For each additional MP spent, the duration of this effect increases by 1 hour. The overall duration is rounded to the nearest hour. If proficient: Zombify is warded. If fluent: The base duration of this effect is 1 hour.
You gain Supernatural Strength. In addition, you deal boosted with all melee weapon attacks and they are AV0 for you.
Attribute improvement: This ability sets your STR score to a minimum of 5.
Attribute improvement: This ability sets your MOV score to a minimum of 0.
Attribute improvement: This ability sets your PER score to a minimum of 0.
At the start of each of your turns, you heal and regain that many HP. This does not consume your hit die. If you were dead due to HP loss, this brings you back to life. If you take fire damage, this effect doesn't apply on your next turn. You only die due to HP loss if you start your turn without successfully regenerating HP.
On hit: Target cannot become wisping. Heightened: For each additional MP spent, the duration of this effect increases by 1 hour. The overall duration is rounded to the nearest hour. If proficient: This effect lasts 10 minutes instead of 1.
Limitation: Body parts only.
